Unlike sex, which in many instances is a natural phenomenon, gender is highly believe to be a creation of the society. In this regard, gender can only be objectively defined in terms of the roles which are distinguished between different sexes. It is paramount to note that gender is determined by the society or culture, this simply means that we cannot have a universal or uniformed definition of gender. However what we are certain of is that as culture changes, gender roles also shift.

This is evidenced by the fact that the roles played by women in Zimbabwe has changed over the years. The major problem is that as culture is fast changing it seems like gender roles are remaining stagnant. The wave of feminism is to a larger extend an effort to propel the wagons of gender roles so that they meet the pace at which culture is changing. To this fact, issues of gender are considered with utmost passion in this school.
